Thank you, Alex!

Stay tuned for our May spotlight.

Interviewed and written by: Kaitlyn Youn, Events Marketing & Outreach Intern for Engage! Cleveland

Cleveland is a city of culture, resilience, and opportunity.

At Engage! Cleveland, we’re passionate about amplifying what makes our city special—from its vibrant neighborhoods to its thriving professional community. We know that when we celebrate Cleveland, we build a reputation that draws in and keeps the next generation of changemakers.

According to the 2023 State of the Young Professional Community Report (SYPCR), a survey Engage! Cleveland conducts bi-annually to get a finger on the pulse of the early to mid-career professional community in Cleveland, a whopping 91% of respondents had a positive view of Cleveland, but only 27% of those respondents said they were “cheerleaders” of Cleveland, with the remaining respondents being passive, or negative.

That’s why we’ve been highlighting local influencers who actively champion Cleveland—people using their platforms, passions, and voices to reshape the narrative and showcase all that makes this city exceptional.

Each month, we shine a spotlight on an individual who inspires us, and this month’s feature is the lifelong Clevelander @clegirls, Alexandra Nemeth. Whether she’s exploring a new restaurant, spending the day in Lakewood, or walking through the West Side Market, Alexandra highlights the everyday experiences that make the city feel authentic and connected. Her content reflects a genuine appreciation for Cleveland’s cultural diversity, local energy, and the people who bring it all to life. Through @clegirls, Alexandra has turned her perspective as a lifelong resident into a platform that celebrates Cleveland in a real and approachable way, encouraging others to explore, support local, and see the city with fresh eyes.

Stay tuned as we continue honoring these individuals and sharing their stories in 2026. Continue reading to learn more about Alexandra and follow her journey on social media: @clegirls

EC: Alexandra, you’ve spent nearly your whole life in Cleveland. When did it start to feel like home?

AN: Honestly, it’s always felt like home to me. I’ve lived here almost 31 years, and being a life-long Clevelander, there’s just something about the authenticity of the city that sticks with you. People here are genuine, hardworking, and deeply proud of where they’re from. You can experience culture, food, and entertainment, but still feel really connected to the people around you—and that’s what makes it special.

EC: What’s your favorite neighborhood in Cleveland?

AN: I love spending time in Lakewood. It has such a strong neighborhood feel, but you’re still so close to the city. You can grab coffee, browse local shops, and then head to the lake all in the same day. It’s the perfect mix of relaxed and lively.

EC: Cleveland has such a rich culture—what stands out to you most?

AN: The cultural diversity really stands out. Cleveland is made up of so many distinct communities, and each one brings its own traditions, especially through food and local events. It’s shaped how I see the city—as a place where differences are celebrated and where culture really brings people together.

EC: What are some of your favorite places to spend time?

AN: I love visiting places like the West Side Market, exploring the Cleveland Metroparks, and trying out local restaurants and coffee shops. There’s always something new to discover, which keeps things exciting.

EC: Did you ever leave Cleveland, or have you always stayed local?

AN: I’ve lived here my whole life, except for when I went to Kent State University for college—go Flashes! But even then, Cleveland was always home base for me.

EC: What role do sports play in your Cleveland experience?

AN: Cleveland sports are a huge part of it. They bring me and my friends together in such a fun way. Whether we’re watching a game at a bar or actually going to one, it creates these shared moments that make the city feel really connected.

EC: What does a typical weekend look like for you?

AN: I like to mix it up. Some weekends I’m exploring new restaurants or checking out local events, and other times I’ll go downtown for a show or a game. There’s always something happening, so it just depends on the mood.

EC: If someone were visiting Cleveland for the first time, what would you tell them?

AN: Come with an open mind—Cleveland will surprise you. It’s a city full of opportunity and really welcoming people. I think a lot of people underestimate it until they actually experience it.

EC: How do you personally celebrate and support Cleveland?

AN: One of my favorite ways is by intentionally supporting locally owned businesses. Whether it’s getting groceries at the West Side Market, dining at family-run restaurants, or buying gifts from small businesses, I try to be really mindful about where I spend my money.

EC: If you could shape one thing about Cleveland’s future, what would it be?

AN: I’d love to see continued investment in neighborhoods—especially making them more connected and walkable. It would make it easier for people to explore beyond their immediate area and stay engaged with different events and businesses across the city.

EC: How do you stay engaged with the community?

AN: I stay involved in local activism and make an effort to spread the word about new businesses—whether that’s through social media, word of mouth, or just bringing friends and family along with me. I also try to support businesses that align with my values.

EC: Where can people connect with you?

AN: You can connect with me on social media or reach out via email to collaborate girls.in.cle@gmail.com
