Celebrating Clevelanders: A Spotlight on the People Making Cleveland Great

Thank you, Kristin!

Stay Tuned for our October spotlight.

Cleveland is a city of culture, resilience, and opportunity.

At Engage! Cleveland, we’re passionate about amplifying what makes our city special—from its vibrant neighborhoods to its thriving professional community.

We know that when we celebrate Cleveland, we build a reputation that draws in and keeps the next generation of changemakers.

According to the 2023 State of the Young Professional Community Report (SYPCR), a survey Engage! Cleveland conducts bi-annually to get a finger on the pulse of the early to mid-career professional community in Cleveland, a whopping 91% of respondents had a positive view of Cleveland, but only 27% of those respondents said they were “cheerleaders” of Cleveland, with the remaining respondents being passive, or negative.

That’s why, since the beginning of the year, we’ve been highlighting local influencers who actively champion Cleveland—people using their platforms, passions, and voices to reshape the narrative and showcase all that makes this city exceptional.

Each month, we shine a spotlight on an individual who inspires us, and this month’s feature is Cleveland native Kristin Mulcahy. Passionate yogi and parent, Kristin is known for her family-centered and adventure-filled content!

Stay tuned as we continue honoring these individuals and sharing their stories. Read on to learn more about Kristin and follow her journey on social media @kristinincleveland.

EC: Thanks for sitting down with us Kristin, we are excited to get to know you better. Tell us a little more about yourself before we dive in.

KM:  I am excited to be here. My name is Kristin Mulcahy, and I am the content creator behind Kristin in Cleveland and Kids in Cleveland.

EC: Do you currently work and/or live in Cleveland?

KM: I am always all over Cleveland, either making content or teaching yoga with kids in Cleveland.

EC: How long have you worked in Cleveland?

KM: I began Kids in Cleveland and my social media account in 2021.

EC: How would you describe your relationship with Cleveland and the surrounding neighborhoods?

KM: I know Ohio will always be home.

EC: What is it about Cleveland that makes you feel at home here, and why do you choose to live in this city over other places?

KM: I love the sense of community, and that there is so much to do and see.

EC: Can you describe your favorite neighborhood or area in Cleveland? What makes it special to you, and how does it reflect your connection to the city?

KM: I love Playhouse Square and I love Lake Erie and I am so grateful we get both!

EC: Cleveland has a rich history and culture. What part of the city’s history or culture do you connect with most, and how does that shape your view of Cleveland today?

KM: I love going to University Circle and visiting all the museums. We have so much history and culture here.

EC: What are some of your favorite places to visit in Cleveland, whether for leisure, food, or entertainment? Why do these spots stand out to you?

KM: I love going to the Westside Market, and there’s so much to do in that area. We went to North Coast Yard a few times this summer, and that was really fun. I love Downtown during the holidays. We always go to the Inventionasium in Tower City and look at the lights in Public Square.

EC: If you’ve lived in other cities, how does Cleveland compare? Are there specific aspects of Cleveland that you think are better or unique compared to those places?

KM: I think Cleveland is the best. I am from this area, but I went to college in Kent and spent some time living in Washington DC, Colorado, and Tennessee, and I’d choose Cleveland any day.

EC: Cleveland has a passionate sports community. How does being a fan of Cleveland’s sports teams (or the city’s overall sports culture) enhance your experience of the city?

KM: For sure! The Cavs winning the 2016 Championship is still one of the best days of my life! I’m lucky as a Cleveland sports fan because the Cavs are my favorite.

EC: How do you typically spend a weekend in Cleveland? Are there any local events or activities that you never miss?

KM: There’s always so much going on, it honestly varies!

EC: What would you say to someone who is thinking about moving to Cleveland? What do you think they should know about the city and its people before making the move?

KM: Do it! Cost of living is great, people are nice, and there’s lots to do.

EC: In what ways do you celebrate Cleveland—whether through its festivals, local businesses, or other cultural traditions?

KM: I love promoting the people, places and organizations that are doing amazing things in this city.

EC:  What’s your personal way of showing love for the city?

KM: I started my social media accounts because I wanted to promote my Kids in Cleveland yoga, and I am so grateful I’m able to do that, and now I also am able to promote all the amazing things happening in and around the city.

EC: What are some ways our audience can engage with you or your work?
