The Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio: A Beacon of Inclusion and Positive Change
The Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio stands as a pillar of progress in the fight against bias, bigotry, and racism. Established in 1927, this organization has been at the forefront of promoting understanding and respect among all races, religions, and cultures for nearly a century1.
Mission and Vision
At its core, the Diversity Center’s mission is clear: to eliminate bias, bigotry, and racism wherever it occurs. Their vision extends beyond this, aiming to create communities where all people are connected, respected, and valued3. This commitment drives their various programs and initiatives, touching the lives of over 7,000 people annually across 11 counties in Northeast Ohio5.
Key Programs
School & Youth Programs
The Diversity Center offers workshops that engage students in Social Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies. These programs focus on exploring self-awareness, collaboration, and social responsibility through the lens of diversity leadership. Additionally, they provide training for educators and youth-serving professionals, equipping them with the tools to create inclusive school environments5.

This professional services division works with organizations to develop inclusive environments. SHIFT Consulting helps businesses attract, engage, and retain top talent by fostering a culture of equity and belonging5.
LeadDIVERSITY
This program brings together professionals to engage with community leaders, raising awareness of diversity, inclusion, and equity issues. Participants explore these concepts and analyze their impact on personal, workplace, and community levels5.
Annual Events
One of the Diversity Center’s flagship events is the Walk, Rock, Roll and Run, celebrating its 22nd year in 2024. This event, held at the Great Lakes Science Center, serves as both a fundraiser and a community celebration of diversity7.
Impact and Recognition
The Diversity Center’s work has not gone unnoticed. They’ve received praise from participants in their programs, with one student noting, “This was definitely the best I’ve attended. I learned a lot, this was great!”5 Their efforts have also been recognized by community partners, including organizations like the ACLU Ohio, Cleveland Public Theatre, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame3.
As we continue to navigate an increasingly diverse world, the work of the Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio remains crucial. By fostering understanding, respect, and inclusion, they’re not just changing minds – they’re changing the fabric of our communities for the better.
