Professional development is essential to success in any career, and I have learned firsthand how valuable it can be in shaping the way you lead and grow. Just as the weather changes, so do the ways we lead and navigate our professional journeys. One of my goals this year was to attend more professional seminars, events, and conferences. Thanks to a wonderful sponsor, I was able to take advantage of numerous opportunities, committing to a year of learning and growth.
My final conference of the year was the LEAD Conference, hosted by Engage CLE. The event took place at one of my favorite locations—the Cleveland Public Library Downtown. This historical building provided the perfect setting for learning new skills and reaffirming my personal and professional development goals. The conference catered to mid-career professionals and covered a range of topics and activities focused on everyday leadership.
Day 1: Harnessing Your Personal Strengths
The first day of the conference was dedicated to intentional leadership, with workshops designed to explore our personal strengths. The question posed was, “Are you using/leveraging your strengths to their full potential?” We examined how we can apply these strengths to be more impactful in the work we do and in our relationships with others. The focus was on finding a harmonious relationship between professionalism and authenticity—bringing our true selves to the workplace while maintaining excellence and integrity.
Day 2: Enhancing Communication and Digital Presence
Day two was dynamic and engaging, as attendees participated in 2–5-minute pitches and learned how to leverage their digital presence. The goal was to encourage individuals to embrace their unique contributions and showcase them confidently. The message was clear: don’t be afraid to take a chance on yourself! By leaning on your personal Board of Directors—your trusted mentors and advisors—you can amplify your impact and success.
The interactive seminars gave me the chance to connect with fellow colleagues while also networking with other professionals. A great conference isn’t just one where you leave with a wealth of knowledge; it’s one that inspires you to take action. The LEAD Conference left me with a clear takeaway: take one step, make one action that will help you reach your goals, both professionally and personally.
