Assistant Professor of Environmental Science/Environmental Chemistry – Lake Erie College

REPORTS TO: DEAN OF THE SCHOOL OF NATURAL SCIENCES AND MATHEMATICS

 

Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, 30 miles east of Cleveland, invites applications for the full-time position of Assistant Professor of Environmental Science/Environmental Chemistry or related field, beginning with the 2025-26 academic year.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

· Using collaborative, instructional technology, and innovative methods, teaches undergraduate courses in environmental science and chemistry, including but not limited to: introductory chemistry, ecotoxicology, environmental management, and soil science.

· Oversees senior capstone research and develops an additional course in an area of expertise/interest.

· Actively engages undergraduate students in research projects.

· Participates in departmental-level planning and development initiatives.

· Supports assessment and recruitment activities to enhance the environmental science program.

· Provides service to the campus and surrounding communities through outreach and engagement efforts.

· Contributes to college governance by serving on faculty and institutional committees.

· Performs academic advising and supporting broader college service initiatives.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & KEY COMPETENCIES:

 

· A minimum of Ph.D. in environmental science, environmental chemistry, or a related field (or providing official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by the hire date).

· Demonstrates a commitment to excellence in teaching, advising, and mentoring students in a liberal arts college environment, as well as service to the campus and local communities.

· Demonstrates evidence of experiential learning approaches.

· Utilizes technology effectively in laboratory, field, and lecture settings.

· Showcases experience or potential for research involving undergraduate students.

· Growth mindset and institutional teamwork ethic.

· Creative, strategic, and thoughtful.
