Community Programs Instructor – Beck Center For The Arts

Position Summary

Beck Center’s Community Programs department is looking for dynamic teaching artists to lead group classes for our Arts Sampler Field Trip program. Candidates should have a background in at least one art form, such as Music, Dance, Theater, or Visual Arts. The ideal candidate is an experienced performer and/or educator with a proven track record of working effectively with children of all ages. Programs are offered both on-site and off-site, and this position is available for immediate start.

Program Summary

The Arts Sampler Field Trip session lasts about 2 hours, with students spending approximately 25 minutes in each class before rotating to the next group. This format ensures that all participants get the opportunity to experience each art form—dance, music, theater, and visual arts. It’s an excellent way for students to engage in out-of-seat learning, going beyond the traditional classroom environment. Our program follows a structured format designed to provide a dynamic, hands-on experience in each artistic discipline, making learning both fun and immersive.

  • Dance: The dance program is designed for participants to explore various styles and genres of dance – from musical theater and ballet to hip-hop and jazz, all to enhance expand the general understanding of dance. Each class begins with a simple stretch and moves into a dance combination.
  • Music: Music in the Arts Sampler introduces and/or reinforces numerous musical concepts through drumming. Essential musical skills addressed include note types (eighth, quarter, etc), rhythm, timbre (sound types), ways of performing (solo, ensemble), names of drums and percussion instruments and additional music fundamentals
  • Theater: The theater experience may be focused on Improvisational Theater which includes the use of theater warm-ups, the fundamentals of improv, use games needed to create an ensemble, and working together or it will focus on theater experiences such role playing, theater terminology, and creating a character along with a tour of our backstage areas.
  • Visual Arts: Visual arts offer the most flexibility, allowing the instructor to focus on painting, cartooning, collage, or various mixed media techniques. Our goal is to help students develop new skills, explore different art forms, and complete a creative project within a short timeframe.
Qualifications
  • We are looking for passionate and dedicated individuals with experience working with children of all ages.
  • The ideal candidate should be a clear and articulate communicator, customer service-oriented, and able to effectively engage with both students and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills are essential, as is the ability to lead classes with educational content that is developmentally and age-appropriate.
  • Flexibility in scheduling and a willingness to learn and teach various art forms are also required.
  • Employment is contingent upon passing a background check.

 

General Description: Hourly

Pay Rate: $25/hr

Contact Days and Hours: These will vary for each Field Trip, but are generally Monday through Friday, between 9:30 AM and 5:00 PM.
