Office Environment/Address: Hybrid – 50% of time in office (3135 Euclid Ave., Suite 103, Cleveland, OH 44115) and 50% of time from home (subject to change). In addition to the office environment, will participate in off site programs and meetings.
Job Summary: The Development Manager will be responsible for visioning and executing fundraising efforts including memberships, sponsorships, individual donations, etc. The position requires a proactive individual to identify prospects, nurture relationships, and execute fundraising strategies to elevate the organization’s visibility and revenue streams. This individual will also manage the development committee, oversee CRM activities, and work closely with various departments to ensure seamless operations. As a small organization, the role involves taking on various responsibilities and shifting focus as needed.
Primary Responsibilities:
Memberships:
- Develop and manage a pipeline of membership prospects from both for-profit and non-profit sectors.
- Sell memberships, follow up on leads, and transition them to events, marketing, or relationship managers.
- Oversee all aspects of the employer membership program, including onboarding, training, and presentations.
- Ensure CRM records are updated with accurate membership data and track all outreach activities.
- Coordinate tax receipt with the accountant for membership payments.
Sponsorships:
- Lead the sales cycle for sponsorships by prospecting, following up, and securing. Then transitioning to events, marketing, or relationship managers for execution.
- Develop content for annual sponsorship brochures and work with the Marketing Manager on design.
- Build and maintain relationships with sponsors through consistent communication and check-in meetings.
- Manage all aspects of sponsorships in collaboration with the Events Manager.
- Track all outreach and sponsorship activities in the CRM system.
- Coordinate tax receipt with the accountant for sponsorship donations.
Development Committee Oversight:
- Manage and support the development committee of the Board of Directors.
- Create agendas and materials for committee and board meetings.
- Assist in preparing presentations, taking attendance, writing memos, and follow-up notes for meetings.
- Conduct meetings with committee members to help advance fundraising efforts.
- Encourage committee and board member involvement in fundraising activities and introductions to decision-makers.
In-Kind Partnerships:
- Research and prospect potential in-kind partnerships (e.g., venues, media) and follow up with potential partners.
- Secure in-kind trades for membership and event support and transition them to the appropriate departments.
- Track all in-kind partnerships in a spreadsheet for reporting purposes.
Donations:
- Identify and request donations (e.g., food, drink, venues) to support events and meetings.
- Follow up with donors and transition necessary details to the Event Manager.
- Track all in-kind donations in a spreadsheet for reporting purposes.
Silent Auctions:
- Manage the prospecting, follow-up, creation, and collection of donations for silent auctions. Currently 2 per year.
- Coordinate the payment and pickup of silent auction items.
Grant Prospecting & Fundraising Campaigns:
- Research, draft, submit, and manage grant proposals to philanthropic and corporate organizations that align with the organization’s mission.
- Develop relationships with the philanthropic community through face-to-face meetings.
- Create and execute fundraising campaigns, including scholarship campaigns.
CRM Tracking:
- Work within the CRM system, ensuring all prospecting and outreach activities are accurately tracked.
- Log meeting notes, manage follow-up activities, and flag important items for follow-up within the CRM.
- Run reports and ensure the CRM system is updated regularly with the latest development activities.
Banking & Accounting:
- Follow up on outstanding accounts receivable by sending invoices and tracking payments.
- Maintain accurate records of all monetary transactions in the CRM system.
Event Support:
- Provide day-of event support, including managing logistics and registration tables.
- Deliver brief remarks at events and assist with public speaking engagements.
- Welcome and thank sponsors during events.
- Ensure event presentations are updated and in line with organizational standards.
Other Responsibilities:
- Advise the President and Board of Directors on new developments in fundraising and potential opportunities.
- Complete a yearly performance evaluation, setting goals and objectives for the upcoming year.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by leadership.
Required Skills/Abilities:

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, and CRM systems.
- Available to work outside of normal hours on occasion, up to a few times each month.
- Ability to transport self and event materials to offsite events.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, sales, or related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in development or fundraising with a proven track record of success.
- Nonprofit experience is highly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds as needed.
- Physical stamina and ability to work onsite and offsite events/meetings that last several hours or multiple days.
