Hunger Network, a non-profit organization which envisions that no one goes hungry and no food goes to waste seeks a full-time Driver & Food Logistics Coordinator. Hunger Network is the largest grassroots hunger relief and food recovery organization in Cuyahoga County that focuses on minimizing food waste and fighting food inequity and injustice by maximizing our community’s access to culturally relevant, nutritious foods.
Our programming includes coordination of a consortium of 70+ hunger relief sites that are strategically placed across the county which provide food supplies, hygiene items, and hot meals to our neighbors who need it most. We bridge the gap between hunger and food waste through the innovative Food Rescue Hero app, which operates via both a direct transfer and transform model to assure fresh food is delivered daily into our local neighborhoods.
Position Summary
The Driver & Food Logistics Coordinator is responsible for all phases of food logistics operations involved in the acquisition, maintenance, and distribution of food to customers and partners in coordination with Hunger Relief and Food Rescue Team members. Drivers are required to always conduct oneself in a professional manner, conducive to the standards of Hunger Network, while serving as an ambassador for maintaining and building positive donor relationships, agency partnerships, and community support. They will also ensure a compassionate and warm-welcoming environment for customers and provide a positive working environment for volunteers. This position reports to the Hunger Relief Program Manager.
General Responsibilities
- Pick up orders, scheduled vendor purchases, participate in outreach opportunities, and delivery to agency locations, as organized by Hunger Relief and Food Rescue teams
- Receive, deliver, and monitor the integrity and quality of food to ensure purchased and donated goods comply with donation expectations and guidelines for all hunger relief and food recovery services.
- Actively participate in physically loading, unloading, and carrying various products daily at delivery and receiving sites and operating electric and manual pallet jacks
- Adjust routes to maximize time and meet the needs of donors and partner agencies, adhering to specified times.
- Complete and submit accurate daily reports for donations received and delivered.
- Maintain necessary records of work, receipts, customer needs/feedback, and supply requirements.
- Complete Food Rescues as needed and assigned
- Fulfill MidTown Market home deliveries within 5-mile radius of office at least 1x/month, with capacity to increase
- Conduct weekly pick up and deliver produce for the Fresh Food Collaborative
- Provide excellent customer service and communication to food donors, customers, volunteers, and partner agencies through phone calls, email, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Food Rescue Hero app, and other software.
- Maintain and clean the truck (cab and food storage box) and other equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, hand trucks/dollies), and arrange for repairs.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections for maintenance and safety, completing required logs/reports.
- Drive and operate a refrigerated box truck (26 feet) and a refrigerated cargo van legally and safely in a variety of weather and traffic conditions.
- Manage and follow maintenance schedules for vehicles, schedule service appointments, and notify the Hunger Relief Program Director and Food Rescue Program Director of any maintenance or repair needs.
- Prepare, stage, and move products for upcoming deliveries.
- Assist with moving inventory and food products into the MidTown Market and other locations.
- Assist with MidTown Market shelf stocking, inventory organization and rotation, and refrigerator/freezer cleaning and upkeep.
- Adhere to Hunger Network’s operational policies and procedures including privacy and confidentiality policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills Required
· Must be able to maintain an attitude of positivity and respect as a representative of
Hunger Network with donors, partner agency personnel, customers, and any other community members.
· Possess a current and valid Ohio driver license with a clean driving record and automobile insurance.
· Must have the ability to manage time efficiently and work independently with
minimum supervision using independent judgment for decision making.
· Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with people of diverse cultures served by Hunger Network.
· Must be able to work as a team.
· Current ServSafe Food Handler Certification and OSHA 10 Certified preferred, or to be obtained within 30 days of employment.
· Undertake training and development activities that are relevant to the role to ensure compliance with legislation, health and safety and safe working practices
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite; experience with Dialpad a plus.
· Ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds and co-lift objects that weigh more than 150 pounds using proper lifting techniques. The employee must be able to stand continuously for up to 3 hours at a time.
Environmental Conditions
While picking up and distributing food, the employee will be exposed to a wide array of environmental conditions including extreme heat and cold, rain, snow and ice. The employee must be able to work in these conditions for up to 3 hours at a time.
