Good Neighbor Ambassador Job Training Program -Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District

This is a temporary, full-time position within a training and work program (Good Neighbor Ambassador Job Training Program), requiring you to work 40 hours per week on a 3-year assignment with a one – year extension option at the Sewer District’s discretion. It is intended as a unique career pathway to develop skills and is not intended as a permanent position.

JOB SUMMARY

Provides various community benefit services to the Sewer District service area. Extends and discharges a high level of services to ensure the Sewer District is properly represented. Works on a variety of projects throughout the community to improve neighborhood vitality. Serves as liaison between the Sewer District and various community organizations, business organizations and the general public. Participates in various Sewer District assignments including, but not limited to, training, professional development, relationship building and community outreach. Works with various departments and representatives to understand the general operations of the Sewer District and communicates relevant information to the community. Assigned to specific Sewer District department to provide assistance. Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Works throughout the community to provide general landscaping services including weeding, mowing grass on public property, tree trimming, leaf pick-up, removing litter and graffiti, snow removal during winter months and providing general neighborhood clean-up activity. Delivers informational fliers to residents. Performs necessary tasks that aid residents.

Supports and assists with activities such as community fairs, school fairs, community meetings and other efforts.

Works with community organizers to understand the role and involvement of the Good Neighbor Ambassadors (GNAs). Ensures quality service is provided.

Provides a high level of visibility to neighborhood residents by maintaining a positive and valuable physical presence within the community. Establishes and maintains positive and proactive relationships with community including residents.

Performs a wide variety of tasks that improve long-term perceptions of the community under the direction of leadership including, but not limited to, work on special community-based projects, advancing community efforts and working with local organizations to support the community.

Undergoes professional development, job readiness, safety and Sewer District required training as necessary.

Organizes and maintains field equipment as needed.

Support and assists Sewer District departments by helping with site management activities at green infrastructure and stormwater facilities, as needed.

Utilize geographic information system (GIS) and computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) applications to conduct data entry, including asset inventory, field notes, and timekeeping.

Maintains good public relations and professional interactions with internal and external customers.

Promotes the Sewer District through positive representation and communication of its services.

Performs other duties as may be required.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

Candidate must possess a high school diploma from an accredited institution, GED or state recognized equivalent.

EXPERIENCE

No previous experience required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must have a stated interest in working towards career advancement by gaining experience, training, and education.

LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS

Possession of a valid driver’s license with a driving record in accordance with the Sewer District’s acceptable guidelines preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Candidate must possess effective written and verbal communication, organizational skills and decision-making abilities.

Candidate must be able to perform manual labor and use the required tools to perform various tasks.

Candidate must possess knowledge of and have a level of comfort working throughout the Sewer District service area.

Candidate must possess the ability to be reliable and punctual in reporting to work as scheduled.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

During the course of performing the essential functions of this position, the employee must be able to communicate, coordinate, organize, problem solve and perform tasks. Physical work will need to be performed, such as balancing, bending, climbing, driving, feeling, operating heavy equipment, kneeling/squatting, reaching, sitting, standing, talking and walking. Repetitive movements will need to be performed such as simple grasping and power grasping with both hands. Ability to push, pull and lift from floor to waist, waist to shoulder up to 40 lbs. on an occasional basis may be necessary. Position will require visual demands of accommodation, depth perception, far acuity and near acuity. Ability to withstand very loud noise exposure for fifteen minutes or longer on an intermittent basis is required. Exposure to environmental conditions such as outdoor work, vibrations, wet/humid conditions and work at heights is encountered in this position.
