REPORTS TO: HEAD COACH, STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING

STATUS: PART-TIME, EXEMPT

 

 

Lake Erie College, located in Painesville, OH, invites applications for the position of Graduate Assistant, Strength and Conditioning. Lake Erie College is an NCAA Division II program that competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC). The Graduate Assistant is responsible for duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Strength and Conditioning, and will manage a secondary responsibility as defined. This is a 10-month appointment, each year, for two consecutive years, pending successful evaluation at the end of year one.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

· Works with coaches and supervisor to establish programs for NCAA athletic programs, as assigned by head strength and conditioning coach.

· Supervises lifts, conditioning sessions, and other training events as assigned by the supervisor.

· Coordinates assigned teams’ training schedules.

· Assists with Sport Performance Programming (workshops, nutrition meetings/counseling, supplement education and review, etc.).

· Attends Sports Medicine Team meetings and receives injury reports.

· Establishes and maintains proper communication with sport coaches, athletic trainers, athletics staff and the strength & conditioning staff.

· Designs training programs and makes necessary modifications, when needed.

· Assists with the maintenance and upkeep of training facilities.

· Supervises weight room and maintains records.

· Projects and promotes an inclusive education with the highest standards, where student-athletes are empowered to leave lives of personal significance and professional success as global citizens.

· Acts as an ambassador of the college and conducts oneself in a positive manner to heighten the awareness of the institution to all of its constituents.

· Operates within the mission of the college and athletics department to ensure a full NCAA DII student-athlete experience.

· Follows all institutional, GMAC and NCAA regulations.

· Availability to work evenings and weekends and to travel for team practices, competition and scouting.

· Assists with transportation of team in vans or bus, upon approval.

· Follows all terms and conditions per the Policy for Graduate Assistants.

· Other duties as assigned by Head Coach, Strength and Conditioning.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND KEY COMPETENCIES:

 

· Bachelor’s degree in physical education, sports management or related field preferred.

· Acceptance into a Lake Erie College graduate program required.

· Knowledge and skill in using integrated software systems and Microsoft applications.

· Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics, rules and regulations of athletic associations and conferences.

· Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community.

· Preference will be given to candidates who are knowledgeable about the Lake Erie College undergraduate student experience.

· Valid driver’s license and approval for driving through the Business Office.

· Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

· Committed to confidentiality, professionalism, and integrity.

· Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.

· Strong organization skills with ability to attend to details.

· Ability to work independently on assigned projects and initiatives.

· Growth and “doer” mindset and institutional teamwork ethic.

· Creative, strategic, thoughtful, and has a sense of humor.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Must have or be working toward CSCS/CSCCA accreditation. Qualified applicants will have the availability to work evenings and weekends, possess a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

All members of the department of athletics are responsible for knowing and following all institutional, Conference and NCAA regulations regarding recruiting and operations of the program. If regulations are not followed and result in a violation, employees are expected to self-report the violation to the compliance office or to the director of athletics. Additionally, employees must understand that those who knowingly violate, conceal, or attempt to cover up violations of NCAA rules shall be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
