Graduate Assistant, Wrestling
Reports to: Head Coach, Wrestling
Status: Part-time, Exempt
Lake Erie College, located in Painesville, OH, invites applications for the position of Graduate Assistant, Wrestling. Lake Erie College is an NCAA Division II program that competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC). The graduate assistant is responsible for duties as assigned by the Head Coach and will manage a secondary responsibility as defined. This is a 10‑month appointment, each year, for two consecutive years, pending successful evaluation at the end of year one.
Responsibilities:
  • Serves as recruiter for the sport of wrestling, identifying and evaluating potential students with that interest and organizing their recruitment in conjunction with the Office of Admissions.
  • Assists with organization of all aspects of the program, including coaching and management of facility, practice and team operations.
  • Helps execute team fundraising efforts, including participation in camps and clinics.
  • Handles uniform and equipment maintenance and inventory.
  • Assists with student-athlete study table coverage and coordination.
  • Projects and promotes an inclusive education with the highest standards, where student-athletes are empowered to leave lives of personal significance and professional success as global citizens.
  • Acts as an ambassador of the college and conducts oneself in a positive manner to heighten the awareness of the institution to all of its constituents.
  • Operates within the mission of the college and athletics department to ensure a full NCAA DII student-athlete experience.
  • Follows all terms and conditions per the Policy for Graduate Assistants.
  • Other duties as assigned by Head Coach, Wrestling or Director of Athletics.
Preferred Qualifications and Key Competencies:
  • Bachelor’s degree in physical education, sports management, or related field preferred.
  • Acceptance into a Lake Erie College graduate program required.
  • Knowledge and skill in using integrated software systems and Microsoft applications.
  • Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics, rules, and regulations of athletic associations and conferences. Collegiate playing experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and approval for driving through the Business Office.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and integrity.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned projects and initiatives.
  • Growth mindset, teamwork ethic, and sense of humor.
Special Requirements:
Qualified applicants must be available to work evenings and weekends, possess a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record, and have the ability to travel for team practices, competition, and recruiting.
All athletics staff are responsible for knowing and following institutional, Conference, and NCAA regulations. Employees must self‑report violations and understand disciplinary action may occur for knowingly violating, concealing, or attempting to cover up violations of NCAA rules.
