Compensation: $500.00 per week
The Camp Lifeguard plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of campers and staff during all water-based activities. Reporting to the Aquatics Supervisor, this position is responsible for maintaining a vigilant watch over swimmers, enforcing water safety rules, and responding swiftly to emergencies with professionalism and care. The Lifeguard fosters an environment where campers feel safe and supported as they participate in aquatic activities, allowing them to confidently develop their water skills. Key responsibilities include monitoring assigned swimming areas, assisting with swim lessons, and maintaining a clean, safe aquatic environment that meets Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), Girl Scouts of North East Ohio (GSNEO), and American Camp Association (ACA) standards.
- Minimum age of 18 years old.
- Hold current certifications in CPR and first aid for lifeguards.
- Current lifeguard or swim instructor certification as well as current CPR and first aid for lifeguards from a nationally recognized body.
- Act as a vigilant and attentive lifeguard during designated free swim sessions, always ensuring camper and staff safety.
- Serve as a Unit Counselor/ Junior Counselor when not assigned to the waterfront, actively engaging with campers and supporting unit activities to foster a positive camp experience.
- Teach and reinforce water safety principles with campers, helping them build confidence and respect for the water.
- Participate in general camp programs, contributing to a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all campers.
- Share responsibility for overnight supervision in units as needed, ensuring camper safety and support during nighttime hours.
- Support unit and camp programs when not on duty at the waterfront or taking designated free time, adapting to various roles to meet camp needs.
- Assist in maintaining pool and aquatic equipment, ensuring cleanliness, functionality, and compliance with safety standards.
- Immediately report all incidents or accidents to the supervisor, following established protocols to ensure timely responses and proper documentation.
- Complete and submit all required records and documentation to the supervisor accurately and on time.
- Collaborate with the Camp Director in evaluating the current camp season, offering insights and suggestions for program and operational improvements for future seasons.
- Consistently uphold GSUSA, GSNEO, and ACA standards, fostering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment in all aquatic and camp activities.
- Embrace and integrate principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in all interactions with campers and staff.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the successful implementation of GSNEO’s goals and objectives.
- Prioritize each camper and staff member’s welfare, safety, and cleanliness, adhering to all health guidelines, including regular handwashing, cleaning, and sanitizing practices.
