The Specialist Vehicle Mechanic maintains and enhances the Park District’s Fleet (vehicles and equipment), as assigned, by performing skilled work in a manner which results in a quality product and/or program consistent with District policies.
Essential Functions:
- Performs Master level skill/trade work in Repair and Maintenance of Vehicles and Equipment.
- Has extensive knowledge and performs considerable skilled work on Police Vehicles, Light Trucks, SUVs, and Sedans.
- Performs considerable skilled and semi-skilled work in a responsible manner by exercising independent judgment and demonstrates initiative, creativity, and leadership. Reports task accomplishments to supervisors and anticipates problems.
- Performs complex mechanical repairs and rebuilding work on vehicles and equipment beyond first echelon of maintenance.
- Ability to Instruct/train other employees in the trade/skill or operation of a wide range of tools/equipment.
- Coordinates and completes projects on time and budget.
- Can operate at least two pieces of the following equipment:
- Trucks; tractors; construction equipment; front-end loader; backhoe; utility vehicles; excavator; bulldozer; grader; special skilled-trade tools.
- Has strong diagnostic skills with extensive wiring schematic background.
- Performs duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action, and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.
- Informs supervisor of key issues promptly
- Provides work direction, changes work assignments, and corrects work activity of other employees, as assigned.
- Performs related duties as apparent or assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent, with at least three years of skilled-level experience. Completion of an approved course in the specific trade or skilled area from an accredited technical school
- Valid Ohio driver’s license, Class A CDL Preferred
- Demonstrated ability to perform variable physical requirements of park maintenance work.
- ASE Master Technician in Automotive required or dealer/manufacturer training applicable to trade or specialized fields will be considered.
- Considerable experience in and knowledge of equipment operation, equipment maintenance, vehicle maintenance which are ordinarily obtained by experience in a technical capacity and above those of a technician’s position qualifications.
- Demonstrated ability to exhibit leadership consistent with teamwork approach that recognizes the contribution of all employees.
- Must be available for emergency and snow plowing call-in.
Wage: $34.11 per hour
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday
