Job Overview
Cleveland Metroparks is seeking a Carpenter/Tradesman to join our Building Trades Division. This role maintains and enhances the Park District’s properties and facilities by performing master level skill/trade work primarily in new construction carpentry and or remodeling. Including additional responsibilities in property and facility maintenance, machinery operation, all phases of concrete/masonry work, and timber framing.
The ideal candidate brings well-rounded expertise, with a strong focus on carpentry (60%) while also possessing foundational skills in electrical, plumbing, and mechanical work (10% each). They should demonstrate leadership abilities (10%), effectively guiding projects and coordinating with team members. This balance of skills enables them to tackle diverse challenges, from detailed carpentry to essential maintenance and repairs, ensuring high standards and efficiency across projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Construction: Reads and analyzes construction drawings for the purpose of compiling material and labor estimates. Performs a wide range of tasks including layout, framing, finish trim, drywall installation, roofing, decking, staircases, windows, doors, siding, and flooring installation. Set forms, spreads, and levels concrete. Adheres to industry standards, Ohio Building Codes, and OSHA regulations.
2. Repairs: Performs minor plumbing, electrical, and HVAC repairs. Responds to emergency situations, both during and after hours, to resolve immediate safety concerns and make repairs as needed.
3. Facility Inspections: Inspects buildings and facilities for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs, and recommending preventative maintenance. Prepares written reports, including repair status updates and activity logs, to document and communicate information.
4. Teamwork: Coordinates with the Building Trades Manager and other crew members to complete projects and work orders efficiently. Notifies necessary staff about procedures and the status of work orders to provide information for decision-making, ensuring appropriate actions are taken, and maintaining compliance with health and building regulations.
Other Responsibilities:
1. Maintains assigned vehicle, equipment, and tools in safe operating conditions.
2. Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and gathering information required to perform job functions.
3. Regular and predictable attendance is expected and required. All Cleveland Metroparks employees must be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
4. Requires regular field visits to job sites in developed and remote areas.
5. Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.
6. Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.
7. Updates and enhances own knowledge by involvement in continuing education for professional growth (i.e., attends relevant conferences, seminars, in-service trainings, and certification programs).
8. Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent with 5 years of master level carpentry or commercial construction experience. Professional experience in concrete forming, ordering, installing, and finishing, rough framing with wood and metal, interior woodworking, and cabinetry.
Machine Operation: Experience operating construction machinery such as an excavator, skid steer, scissor lift, articulating lift, concrete buggy, and other trucks.
Leadership: Demonstrated ability to foster a collaborative team environment that values and acknowledges each employee’s contributions.
Other Qualifications:
· Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license under the laws of the State of Ohio.
· Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders including contractors and the general public.
· Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
· Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.

Salary: $33.05 per hour
