The Position

Hawken Upper School is seeking a full-time Science Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. The ideal candidate will teach at least two science disciplines, with preference for those who can teach 9th grade physics or 10th grade chemistry, plus one other discipline such as AP Environmental Science or Biology. Candidates should be experienced in inquiry-rich, hands-on learning and excited to co-design learning experiences beyond the classroom, especially as part of our Intensives program.
We seek educators eager to work in a collaborative, team-based environment committed to doing school differently—centering student voice and choice, real learning for real purposes, and durable skills over content coverage.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Teach at least two science disciplines (preference for physics and chemistry)
  • Create science-themed Intensives (all-day, 3-week classes in December and/or May)
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design purposeful, project-based curricula
  • Coach or lead a co-curricular activity (e.g., Science Olympiad, robotics, speech and debate, sports, affinity groups)
  • Serve as an advisor to a group of 9–12 students
  • Other duties supporting student learning and belonging as assigned
Hawken provides substantive professional development opportunities to support teacher growth and innovation.

Qualifications

  • Experience teaching (3+ years preferred)
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in a science-related field OR experience in a STEMM field
