Cleveland Metroparks Volunteer Services’ mission is to promote community involvement through rewarding volunteer opportunities that support the needs and mission of Cleveland Metroparks. Volunteer Services, a department within Human Resources, is looking for an Administrative & Event Specialist to support the Volunteer Services Department and our award-winning Trail Ambassador Program.
Essential Functions:
- Regular and predictable attendance is expected and required. All Cleveland Metroparks employees must be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
- Coordinates day-to-day operations of volunteer programs including first line of contact with volunteers: Manages department email account, provides support to volunteers when needed, ensures program requirements are met, and maintains volunteer data.
- Collaborates with departments throughout the Park District to address the organization’s needs and create meaningful volunteer opportunities.
- Works with Volunteer Manager to recruit, interview, and train new volunteers. Coordinates mentor program where applicable.
- Writes content for newsletters and other regular communications. Assists with revisions to program guides and training presentations.
- Develops, plans, and facilitates ongoing continuing education opportunities for volunteers and assists with volunteer recognition events and activities.
- Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.
- Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.
- Updates and enhances own knowledge by involvement in continuing education for professional growth (i.e., attends relevant conferences, seminars, in-service trainings, and certification programs)
- Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Public Administration, Communications or related field supplemented by three years of experience in administration, human resources or volunteer services; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license under the laws of the State of Ohio.
- Experience working with and/or coordinating volunteers preferred.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
- Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
- Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs; experience using Volgistics, Monday.com, Shopify, and online newsletter platforms is beneficial.
- Mature professional attitude and considerable discretion, including ability to manage confidential information.
- Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.
Wage: $20.86 – $24.00 per hour
