How would you describe your culture?
Our culture is shaped largely in part by our five core values, which all associates aim to live out every day. These values are: we do the right thing, our people matter, we are dedicated to the success of our clients, we want to win, and we are one CBIZ.
Thus CBIZ culture could be described as welcoming, challenging, and supportive. The challenging nature of CBIZ ensures we bring in the most qualified individuals, and from there, all are welcomed into the CBIZ family with compassion as we work towards achieving our collective goals. Associates are given sufficient resources and support to succeed, and are continually challenged to improve. It’s a culture that fosters success and shared meaning.
How would you describe your mission and what you do?
Our mission here at CBIZ is to provide exceptional advice and solutions that help our clients achieve their goals. We strive to be both the premier provider of professional business services for our clients, and the employer of choice for our associates.

What types of positions do you typically hire young professionals for?
We hire Young Professionals in all sorts of positions—anything that their education, expertise, and passion align with! We have a robust internship program that spans across all departments; this sets up growth and promotion opportunities for our interns and soon-to-be Young Professionals.
Aside from our intern program, we have our National Campus Recruiting team, which works hard to seek out recent graduates and attract the freshest talent in the field.
While Young Professionals are often hired initially into entry-level positions, our development and education programs equip them to move up in the ranks in a matter of years. This applies to all divisions and departments.
What qualities do you look for in a candidate?
When it comes to hiring, there are a few key qualities that our recruiters look for in candidates. We want individuals who demonstrate a high level of initiative, work well in teams, and have not only a willingness but a desire to grow.
Do you have an internship program?
The CBIZ internship program gives students hands-on experience, paired with resources and support to succeed. We currently have 217 interns nationwide, and 12 sittings here in Cleveland. While interns work primarily within their own team, we offer plenty of intern-focused events and activities. Monthly lunches and outings ensure our interns have the opportunity to build relationships with one another.
Our Intern Learning Series is another key aspect of the CBIZ program—once a week all interns nationwide come together virtually to network and gain cross-departmental exposure. A subdivision of the learning series is our Cohorts, which is a group of 5-8 interns scattered across the country, also meeting once a week. These cohorts establish a platform and space to engage with one another despite differences in department or location.
Do you have any internal Young Professional groups?
We do have a young professionals program, CBIZ Young Professionals (CYP). The group’s purpose is to provide exceptional growth and development opportunities to young team members to help them achieve their personal and professional goals. The program aims to give all associates the opportunity to communicate openly across business lines, positively represent CBIZ in the community, connect with new people and increase understanding of CBIZ and its services.
CYP has been piloted in a few cities and is currently being nationalized! The group has an executive board with the following positions: Executive Co-Chairs, Diversity & Inclusion Hair, Networking & Professional Development Co-Chairs, Signature Events Co-Chairs, Marketing & Communications Co-Chairs, Philanthropic Co-Chairs, and Treasurer Chair.
We are excited to see CYP continue to grow as we welcome new generations into the CBIZ workforce.
How do you help your employees get involved in the community (i.e. volunteer program, service days, etc.)?
Giving back to the community—especially the community that has housed our corporate office for nearly 20 years—is a huge part of the CBIZ mission. CBIZ Cares is our volunteer program; roughly once a month, employees will leave the office for a few hours to volunteer locally. Service opportunities range from serving at soup kitchens and food banks to volunteering time at fundraisers and local events.
What type of employee training/development do you offer to help young professionals make an impact and grow?
In addition to our CYP, we offer a variety of leadership and talent development opportunities to both our Benefits and Insurance division and our Financial Services division. These opportunities include webinars, guides, and courses, all of which take place virtually, allowing associates across the country to attend.
Another key factor in the training and development of our Young Professionals is our tuition assistance program. CBIZ reimburses associates for any courses taken to help propel their careers. Similarly, we offer internal preparation classes for professional exams such as the CPA.
